Newsletter #3: Ariana, what are you doing here? (Checking in).
Hi my good people! :)
Whew, I had to gather my thoughts here and WRITE.
I haven’t been on top of my newsletter in a little bit but I’m very incredibly excited for the fall? Not even thinking about summer as my fall will be packed!
As many of you know, I will be starting graduate school at Tyler this upcoming fall! I am so so excited for this prospect and worked my butt AWF for this. There’s so much that I could say but I’d rather show you in due time!
In other news, my website works again, i fully updated it and redesigned it.
Work life wise, it has been interesting to say the least; I got dropped out of the same opportunity twice by the same gallery, all these planets moving backwards isn’t cutting it for me, I need them to station direct already!!
I think, and that’s just my personal thinking, that in this current political climate, people and places aren’t trying to hard to take risks and as conservatism lurks (to be frank, it is already here), with the return of abstract art (mainly by cis white male artists cuz Black abstraction is lit) it is now time to go a little extra mile with the work we want to make. Doubling down on authenticity and making our voices heard. Not settling for the current trends and tendencies is key.
I have had a pretty rough time this winter but as I always do, I keep it pushing. I keep making and trying. There’s so much that I want to do and so much that I want to try and that is what drives me most of the time. “It ain’t over til it’s over”.
I’m going to a concert tonight. Need to shake off the negative things by communing and dancing. When they try to silence us: we dance and dance and dance!
With that said, keep dancing, keep making, keep being authentic, if they trouble you, fart on em! They hate to see us happy!
I will see you when I’m back in my flow. Hope you are doing well and being there for those who need it most 🌼
Here’s a song I have been thinking about:
